Introduction
The first three test types (addition, subtraction and times
table) are designed to reinforce the most basic mathematics a child must learn.
From these three things, all the other maths techniques can be derived.
Typically you would set the addition to have a max result
of either 10 or 20 depending on the current stage your child is learning at
school. Here is an example of some settings for a young child

Note that in addition to setting the max addition result to
be 20, we have also set the minimum value to be added together to be 2 or
above. This is because the child in question complained that adding 1 was ‘too
easy’.
After pressing ‘ok’ you can start a ‘new test’ and you will
be presented with a question and a numeric keypad for input

The younger child found this input method very easy to use
in practice.
Note that times tables are presented with the target
multiplier first e.g. the 2 times table has 2 x 12 and not 12 x 2. It is
possible that if a child has been taught the other way round, they will not get
the fact that 12 x 2 is the same as 2 x 12. If this is a problem for you,
please drop me a line and I will make it configurable.
